Bigfoot Knows Kickstarter – Interview with Indie Comics Legend Dan Price
Posted by Brandon Bloxdorf and Jacob Stolt on May 15, 2025
Bigfoot Knows Karate is back with a vengeance—and Chapter 3: Hellhound on My Trail is taking cryptid comics to the next level. As the campaign kicks into high gear, we caught up with the legendary indie comics creator Dan Price to talk about the latest in the series, his advice for creators, and what it takes to run a killer Kickstarter campaign.
Hey Dan! You’ve been an influential member of the Indie Comics Community for as long as I’ve known you. What advice do you have for those who are feeling stuck in comics or as if they’re not making much progress?
The best thing I can say is to keep creating. Sometimes, as a creator, you go through slumps and creative blocks, but you have to keep going. You will work yourself out of whatever demon you are facing as long as you keep going.
Bigfoot Knows Karate is a masterpiece of a title for marketing and capturing the essence of what comics can do. What about this book do you think resonates with you as a creator so much?
Working on BFKK is very freeing as a creator. There is a lot of material to work from considering the book is riddled with cryptids of different origins and geographic locations as well as the martial arts slant, but the overall storyline we are crafting is so intricate with a lot of threads to work with. It’s a blast to work on, especially with my co-writer, Casey T. Allen, who really brings the whole thing together. I am blown away by his talent.
What are you most excited about with this new chapter of the series?
Answers! We have been dangling a carrot on a string these last couple of issues, bringing up question after question through the story. Now, with BIGFOOT KNOWS KARATE Chapter 3: Hellhound On My Trail, we really get to explore the true motivation of this mysterious agency that has been hunting Bigfoot/Benny and what their plans are for the Hinagon Warrior.
What’s a dream project that you want to bring to life?
I think I am doing it already. I am working with one of my best friends in Casey, on a book that people are really getting behind. The story is fun, the art style is a blast to draw in and explore. I get to work with my guys at Homebrewed Comics, pushing out new and unique titles and building a publishing label from the ground up. This is a really good time for me in comics.
What advice can you give on performing a great Kickstarter campaign? What secrets do you have to keep you going all month and the hype high?
Get creative. Work your social media. Work your email newsletter crowd. Work past backers through updates to past campaigns. Podcast interviews. Send out a press release. Do not expect people to just find you, you must actively go recruit your backers.
