We did an interview with Chris Sahloff from Homebrewed Comics

What is Homebrewed Comics and where did the concept come from?

Homebrewed Comics is a new comic book publisher, and the concept originally came from the creation of my comic CRIT which is based on a homebrewed D&D campaign. Now it has grown into a group of creators that are pushing the envelope and producing high quality content that everyone can get in to. From CRIT to Caspian Port to Celestial Knight and Bigfoot Knows Karate we have a lot to offer any reader.

C.R.I.T. is a phenomenal series that you've been working on, what do you have to say about the series for newcomers?

CRIT is for everyone. It's fun, it's full of action and it has a little mystery and drama in it. Every issue is written as an entry point so anyone can jump in at any time and if they like what they read they can read the back issues. It's a title that has a little bit of something for everyone in it from giant robots, to zombies to a talking cat.

What advice do you have for creators who struggle with finding success in comics or really, who feel that they're not having success in comics?

Just keep pushing forward. It's ok to make mistakes and as long as you are learning along the way then you're not failing.

What keeps you fueled to continue making comics?

The fact that people keep coming back for more CRIT, and now that I have a whole creative team working with me I'm even more driven than before because I know I'm not alone in this game.

What's a dream project that you want to bring to life?

Either working on a Mass Effect comic or a Warhammer 40k book.

You have a LOVE for D&D, what is your favorite thing about the beloved game?

The organic story telling aspect and how it allowed me to bring my friends back together after 10 years to play games again. We have so many fun stories from our campaign that I'm excited to bring to life.

What shows and events do you have coming up this year?

I have Ishcon in Durham NC in May, Heroes Con in Charlotte NC in June and NC comicon in November. For free comic book day I'll be setup at Collecting problems in Fort Mill in SC with Dennis.

Any shout outs to other creators you'd love to give?

Oh jeez there's a list.
  • All my guys in HBC - Drew, Dan and Dennis who keep the machine running and my motivation on 10
  • Jason Pharo - The Convictor and one of my best friends. He really helped me kick off this whole comic adventure and continues to support and push me along the way.
  • Jerry from E4 comics is a con buddy and I love the Elements he's got a story that has a familial approach as well and I love his passion and drive
  • Luis Thomas who is an amazing artist and colors CRIT
