Saddle stitch (staple binding) is one of the most popular and affordable ways to bind booklets. This method uses two sturdy staples placed along the spine to securely hold all the pages together.
Commercial publishers and booklet makers use saddle stitch binding for magazines, pamphlets, brochures, catalogs, coloring books, and short comics—making it a versatile choice for a wide range of projects.
Saddle-stitching is a classic comic book binding method that uses two sturdy staples placed into the spine (the fold) of your booklet. This process secures all pages together and allows the book to lay mostly flat for easy reading.
- How it works: Sheets are folded and nested together, then stapled through the fold using a saddle-stitching machine.
- Page counts: Saddle-stitched books must have page counts in multiples of 4 (for example, 28 pages is allowed, but not 26).
- Best for: Comic books, zines, programs, and booklets with lower page counts—usually under 56 pages for best results.
- Why choose it: Affordable, professional, and durable—the go-to for classic single-issue comics!
Comix Wellspring Standard: Our standard comic books use 60# bright white uncoated paper for the interiors and an 80# glossy paper for the front and back covers. Both are cost-effective, high-quality options with sturdy wire staples for durability and easy reading.
- 60# Uncoated Text: A bright white, smooth paper for crisp black & white or color interior pages—perfect for traditional comic book reading.
- 80# Gloss Cover: Our standard cover stock—a shiny, vibrant finish that makes your colors pop and gives a polished, professional feel.
- Self-Cover (Same as Interiors): This option uses the same 60# uncoated paper for both the interior pages and the cover, creating a classic, cost-effective “all-inside-pages” feel. Available for saddle-stitch books only.
Separate Line Items: Different stocks or interiors (even on the same page) are not considered variants and must be ordered as separate line items. This includes sketch covers, foils, etc.
Minimum Order Quantities:
- For true variants, submit the interior files once and each cover individually, labeled clearly.
- Indicate quantities of each variant in the notes section. Each variant must be ordered in a minimum of 10 copies.
- Specialty orders (e.g., foils) require a minimum of 25 copies, which can be split further (e.g., 10 and 15) if noted.
- When placing your order, you can upload variant cover files and specify the details in the notes section.
Please ensure that the covers are clearly labeled and that the notes indicate the quantity of each.
Set up your files properly and save time.
